Hannah S’s Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes

I’m here today to tell you the story of why I chose the flavors and decorations on my cupcake. But, before I can tell you that story, I have to tell you this story. For every one of my birthdays up until last year, I never actually ate the desert at my party. Well, I only ate the fruit in the fruit bowl. Last year though, I decided it might be good to make something that I would like to eat. So, I found this recipe for strawberry shortcake. We got the strawberries, we got the heavy cream to whip, and we made the ladyfingers. Then, we decided it may be better if each person made their own rather than us making them for people to eat. So, we had a “Make your own Strawberry Shortcake” for dessert.

Now, this was a pretty big achievement for me. It may not seem so to you—because you have probably eaten all of your birthday desserts—but it was. It was the first time I had really actually eaten the dessert at my birthday party. So, when I heard about the cupcake competition, I decided that maybe I should use that as part of my story.

Now, if you haven’t already figured out my cupcake is a Strawberry Shortcake cupcake. Now, I’m going to tell you about why I chose the decorations. The rose in the middle represents the fact that I had all my friends with me at my party. I chose a rose because all of my friends are different and because no two roses are exactly the same. On the outside of the rose around the edge of the cupcake are my take on fall leaves. They may not look exactly like leaves but they were the best I could do with frosting. The fall leaves are to represent that my birthday is in November.

If you don’t really get the story, then I’ll kind of explain the beginning a little more. Every year for my birthday, I had cake or cupcakes or something of that sort. I’m not a big fan of any of those, so I really wanted to find some dessert that I would enjoy as much as my friends did.  I decided to go with something that had some fruit in it but at the same time wasn’t very mandatory. What I mean by that is, at least one of my friends doesn’t really like fruit so you didn’t have to put fruit in it. That dessert I really tried to make good for everybody. This cupcake is about those memories.
